From July 5 to 11, 2021, the School of Business of GDUFS launched the training program of Cantonese Business Culture Experience and Innovation Practice for students from Hong Kong and Macao. Renowned professors were invited to deliver lectures regarding Cantonese business culture, intending to help students from Hong Kong and Macao gain a deeper understanding of Cantonese business culture, carry forward Cantonese business culture, as well as promote exchanges and communications among students from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. More than 130 students from seven universities in the Greater Bay Area signed up for the program to start a virtual journey on Cantonese business culture.

To support the exchanges and cooperation between universities in the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, the Ministry of Education launched “Exchange Program for University Faculty and Students in Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland” ( “10,000 Talents Initiative”) in 2013. The project of “Cantonese Business Culture Experience and Innovation Practice for Students from Hong Kong and Macao” jointly applied by GDUFS and universities in Hong Kong and Macao was approved by the Ministry of Education and was financially sponsored by its “10,000 Talents Initiative”.

During prevention and control of COVID-19, GDUFS responded to the call of “keeping connection alive for exchanges” by the Ministry of Education, and carried out online exchanges and cooperation with universities in Hong Kong and Macao via Tencent Meeting.

The training program lasted seven days. Ten renowned professors were invited to deliver series of lectures regarding Cantonese business culture.

Lectures “Cantonese Business Culture and Corporate Social Responsibility” delivered by Zhu Wenzhong and “Cantonese Business Culture and Sustainable Development Course” delivered by Huang Lei expounded, in simple terms, the industrial structures of all regions and current business situation in Guangdong, intending to deepen students’ understanding of Cantonese business culture and spirit. While the lecture “Cultural Marketing Strategy for the Inheritance and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Cantonese Business Culture” by Luo Jining developed the sense of mission and responsibility among students from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao for the protection of Cantonese business culture heritage.

Through the series of courses on Cantonese business management communication and organizational behavior, Cantonese business leadership and innovation, professors Wang Gang, Xie Jun, Yang Wenhui and Yuan Denghua shared with students the methods for business governance and performance improvement in Guangdong, as well as the new pattern of Cantonese business development. Deng Bin's Huawei lecture on learning method offered a professional analysis from multiple perspectives, highlighting the corporate culture and spirit of Huawei, a pioneer in China's communications industry.

Professor Shen Minghao's lecture on "Cantonese business network and Maritime Silk Road" brought a successful end to the academic lecture sharing of the training program. In the training program, the teachers devoted themselves to teaching and, and explained in simple terms in combination with relevant theories and classic cases, while the students also actively participated in group discussions.

At noon on July 11, 2021, the program came to a successful end. Ke Xiaohua, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of GDUFS, Zhu Wenzhong, Dean of the School of Business of GDUFS, and Shen Minghao, Director of Cantonese Business Research Institute, attended the online graduation ceremony. Lin Zihui from MPI spoke on behalf of all the students and proposed that young people in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao should give full play to their respective strengths and shoulder their responsibilities, highlighting that they should not only learn from the excellent experience and pioneering spirit of the past, but also possess the vitality and spirit to keep innovating and forging ahead. Meanwhile, she noted that she had gained a lot from the training program and thanked the officials and teachers from GDUFS for their brilliant planning and arrangement.

Xu Yiqing, Deputy Dean of the School of Business of GDUFS, presided over the graduation ceremony.

GDUFS has long been dedicated to educational exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, as it established close cooperative relations with several universities in Hong Kong and Macao and carried out numerous programs in terms of scholars' exchange visits, student exchanges and cooperative research, with impressive achievements. In the future, GDUFS will continue to cooperate with universities in Hong Kong and Macao to carry out exchange programs, online and offline courses and lectures. It is expected that, with more students from Hong Kong and Macao accessible to such language learning and culture experience, the friendship between students from Hong Kong, Macao and the mainland will be enhanced.
