From December 20th to 23rd, 2021, the College of Art, GDUFS successfully held the Observation and Practice of Chinese Traditional Ceramic Art (first session), which is one of the “Ten Thousand Talents” programs, funded by the Ministry of Education aimed at promoting exchanges among faculties and students of universities in Hong Kong, Macao and the mainland of China. It takes Chinese traditional ceramic art as the theme and is carried out in forms of ceramic art observation and practice, making of works, and achievement display. The young participants from the three regions are expected to be able to explore the cultural elements contained in handmade ceramics in Guangzhou and Foshan, and inherit Chinese classic traditional culture. The program has attracted 133 students from 9 universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

The planned program was supported by the provincial research platform "Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture Inheritance Base (traditional ceramics)". In order to do a good job in the teaching of this program, GDUFS College of Art adopted a combination of online and offline teaching methods, struck a balance between theoretical learning and practical experience, and strengthened the vividness of online interaction and offline practice.

The training is the first session of the program, mainly involving theoretical courses of ceramic art history and ceramic art appreciation. With solid theoretical foundation, practical skills and interesting and interactive lectures, four lecturers analyzed the development history of Chinese ceramic art, the appreciation of Chinese ancient ceramic classics, the internationalization path and spatial application of ceramic works, as well as the production skills of Jingdezhen ceramics. Through the appreciation of a large number of personal and classic works, students have witnessed their aesthetic awareness and level in ceramic art improved, and grasped a new understanding of the development of Chinese ceramic art. The program has won great popularity among students, as 95% were satisfied with it.

The second session of the program will be held in July 2022, when the practical ceramic production will be the core. By then, students will learn and master the whole process and skills of ceramic production through study of blank drawing, overglaze and underglaze painting, glazing, as well as kiln firing. Meanwhile, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the charm of Cantonese enamel porcelains and Shiwan Ceramics.
