On the morning of June 9th, Martinos Mandalidis, Consul General of Greece in Guangzhou, visited GDUFS. Shi Youqi, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of GDUFS, met the guests at the VIP Reception Hall of the Administration Building of the North Campus. The two sides exchanged views on the construction of the Greek language program, the cultivation of high-level multilingual talents, and the cooperation between GDUFS and the University of Athens and other internationally renowned universities in Greece.

Shi Youqi welcomed the delegation and introduced various information about GDUFS to them. He pointed out that GDUFS is a high-level university with distinctive international characteristics. GDUFS maintains cooperative ties with more than 483 universities and academic institutions in 60 countries or regions to date. It has three sino-foreign joint programs and runs seven Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) overseas. He emphasized that GDUFS attaches great importance to cultivating compound minor language talents. Greek program in GDUFS is the fourth in China and the only one in South China to get undergraduate teaching permission from the Ministry of Education of China. It adopts “Greek and English” bilingual training and “3+1” international cooperative teaching modes. Students have strong international awareness and bright employment prospects. He also reviewed the history of the cooperation and exchanges between GDUFS and related Greek institutions. He hoped that both sides could continue to enhance collaboration and promote the communication and cooperation in education, culture, economy and trade between China and Greece.
Martinos Mandalidis indicated that the relationship between Greece and China demonstrates a long history of friendly cooperation. Culture and education are the cornerstones of Greece-China relations. He congratulated GDUFS on its achievements in diversified foreign language programs. He was highly appreciative of its achievements in the Greek language program, the enthusiasm of students for study, and various Greek cultural activities held by GDUFS. They will continue to support GDUFS in talent cultivation and enhance collaboration.
